When people speak about the ICWW, most inevitably associate two names with it: Rolf Halter and Stefan Born. Over many years, both have played a decisive role in shaping and developing international indoor cycling. In recognition of their extraordinary commitment, their passion, and their outstanding contributions, they have now been appointed honorary members of the ICWW.
During the 1st World Cup 2026 in Nesvady (Slovakia), the long-standing first chairman, Rolf Halter, was officially honored. As the initiator of the World Cup series, he not only founded it, but also continuously developed and expanded it with great dedication. Already in February, the series celebrated its 29th anniversary – a fitting occasion to appropriately honor his life’s work. For many years, Rolf led the ICWW with great foresight, maintained close relationships with international federations, and was deeply committed to sporting exchange, particularly with athletes from Hong Kong, who benefited greatly from his expertise.
Stefan Born was also honored for his outstanding commitment and inducted as an honorary member during this year’s Worms Cup. For many years, the Worms Cup has been regarded as an exemplary event in indoor cycling, not least because of the regularly organized fundraising campaigns in support of Eastern European nations. This sustainable support benefits the entire indoor cycling community. In particular, the close exchange with Hungary strongly bears Stefan’s signature. Together with Martin Schön, he established structures that remain in place to this day. In addition, Stefan has been and continues to be involved in numerous training camps, international exchange programs, and competition series. As mentor to Gracia Sotomayor, he also supported the integration of a new nation – and even a new continent – into indoor cycling.
The impressive achievements of Rolf Halter and Stefan Born are the result of many years of shared work, driven by a genuine passion for the sport. The ICWW and the entire indoor cycling community owe them a tremendous debt of gratitude. Their appointment as honorary members is an expression of our deep appreciation and recognition for their extraordinary lifetime achievements in the service of indoor cycling.
