Cycle Ball in England – A Success Story

The development of cycle ball in England is a great example of how ICWW-supported measures can bear fruit after years of dedicated effort. Since 2018, the project has been led by Marco Wagner, who supported British coach Felix Young in Bath, southern England, in building a training group of more than 10 cycle-ball players. The results speak for themselves. In 2022, four years after the project began, the English cycle-ball players took part in the World Championships in Ghent. Many joint training camps and three World Championships later, the first World Championship victory was celebrated in 2025 in Göppingen. In 2026, at least five training camps are planned, with the goal of representing England as well as possible at the home World Championships in Derby.

A new location

Interest in indoor cycling in Great Britain is growing. The 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships in Glasgow made such an impression that this year’s Indoor Cycling World Championships is being organized in Derby by Scott Taylor, who first discovered the sport at that very event. Meanwhile, the cycle-ball project from Bath is putting out its first offshoot: Nico Galbreath, a former cycle-ball player from Bath, is now studying at Swansea University in Wales, where he recently founded a cycle ball club. Thanks to the dedication of our bike mechanic Hermann Schön, four cycle-ball bikes have been made available to get training up and running.
